EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Police have located the vehicle that was involved in a hit-and-run last week that killed a 77-year-old woman in South-Central El Paso.

Family seeks justice after woman killed in hit-and-run in South-Central El Paso

Police say investigators have located the suspect vehicle and are still investigating the case.

As we have previously reported, Maria Lopez, 77, was struck and killed by an SUV Saturday morning, July 19, along the 6800 block of Alameda in South-Central El Paso.

The initial investigation revealed that a light-colored SUV was traveling west on Alameda at the same time Lopez was crossing the street northbound, police said.

The SUV then struck Lopez and continued west on Alameda, police said.

KTSM 9 News spoke with Lopez’s family this week, saying that they want justice and are pleading for the driver involved to come forward.

Family members say Lopez was a mother and a grandmother, known for her generosity and love for others.

“She would be the type to always say, ‘Oh, it’s someone’s birthday. Let me cook some gorditas,’” said her daughter, Viviana Lopez. “She cared about everyone.”

Viviana Lopez tells KTSM that her mother had been shopping that morning and was planning to visit family in Juarez.

“Nobody with a soul does that,” Viviana Lopez said. “I’m not sure how a person could just leave a sweet old lady there. I just want justice for my mom.”

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to contact police at the non-emergency number 915-588-4900, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915)566-TIPS (8477).

This is the 34th traffic fatality of this year compared to 36 this same time last year, police said.
