SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Two gunmen ambushed a police officer outside his house Thursday night in the Baja beach community of Rosarito, according to a police investigation.
The officer was reportedly arriving home after his assigned shift when the suspects opened fire, striking him at least once and riddling his truck with bullets.
A car parked nearby was also struck by several stray bullets.
Investigators say two weapons were recovered at the scene including “long weapon” and a Glock handgun, which are now being traced and analyzed.
No motive for the shooting has been established.
The officer, only described as a 39-year-old, was taken to a hospital where he remains in stable condition. He is expected to survive.
No other details surrounding the incident have been made public.
Rosaritos is located 20 miles south of the U.S.-Mexico border.
