SILVER CITY, N.M. (KTSM) — The Goose Fire is now at 3,401 acres with 30 percent containment, with 140 personnel working on the fire, the Albuquerque Zone Incident Management Team said in an update.
The fire is burning 18 miles northwest of Silver City, New Mexico, and the cause has been ruled as lightning, the Incident Management Team said.
Officials say firefighters will search for and extinguish heat along the edge of the fire area, reinforcing handling and working towards additional containment, with repair work ongoing around the perimeter of the fire.
“Yesterday, crews made progress doing fire suppression rehab work along Goose Lake Trail No. 238, Sheep Corral Trail No. 231, and the 282 and 4083V Forest Service roads,” officials said.
Critical fire weather conditions are expected over the next few days, which will consist of dry, sunny weather and relative humidity, according to officials.
A temporary flight restriction (TRF) went into effect on July 20.
