KTSM News – 1 taken into custody after officer-involved shooting in Las Cruces

Posted on July 27, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Las Cruces Police said that one of its officers discharged his duty weapon Sunday afternoon, July 27 in an incident that did not result in any “major injuries.”

At about 3:40 p.m. Sunday, Las Cruces Police were sent out to a possible domestic incident along the 1900 block of Embassy Drive.

One of the people in the domestic incident was reported to be armed with a gun, Las Cruces Police said.

The investigation is in its infancy, but preliminary information indicates one LCPD officer discharged his duty-issued firearm before a non-lethal use of force was used to take the subject, a male, into custody, police said. Police did not identify the person in the incident by name or age.

The subject was transported to a local hospital with “non-gunshot, non-life-threatening injuries” he sustained while being taken into custody, police said.

Charges are pending against the male suspect, police said.

The officer was not injured and will be placed on administrative leave which is standard protocol for such an incident, Las Cruces Police said.

A portion of Embassy Drive near Hoagland Avenue will temporarily be closed during the on-scene investigation.

The incident will be investigated by the Officer-involved Incident Task Force, which includes investigators from New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police.

No other information is available at this time but we will update this story when we learn more.
