EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Canutillo Independent School District will provide free dinners to children starting on Monday, Aug. 4, according to the news release by the school district.
According to Canutillo ISD, as part of the federal Child and Adult Care Food Program, the school district will orovide free dinners to children ages 1 through 18 years old, regardless of enrollment in Canutillo ISD.
“We’re proud and excited to expand our meal service in this way,” said Marco Macias, director of Child Nutrition Services for Canutillo ISD. “This program gives all children in our community access to healthy dinners, which is a huge step towards building a stronger and healthier future.”
Meals will be served from 3:15 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following participating campuses, Canutillo ISD said:
- Childress Elementary School, 7700 Cap Carter Rd.
- Canutillo Elementary School, 651 Canutillo Ave.
- Davenport Elementary School, 8401 Remington Dr.
- Garcia Elementary School, 6550 Westside Dr.
- Damian Elementary School, 6300 Strahan Rd.
Additionally, Canutillo ISD said the Texas Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are funding and supporting the program.
The dinners will be prepared and served by the school district’s nutrition staff and meet federal nutrition standards, Canutillo ISD said.
