Border Report – Cross Border Xpress launches fundraiser to help children in Baja

Posted on August 6, 2025

SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Travelers headed to the Tijuana International Airport via the Cross Border Xpress, or CBX, are being asked to donate any amount of their choosing to help children in Tijuana.

It’s part of an annual fundraiser staged by the Teletón Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation, or CRIT as it is known south of the border.

The money raised will help children with disabilities, cancer and autism.

“All the money raised through CBX will stay in Baja California,” said Cristina Muñoz, assistant director for CRIT promotions in Baja California.

The fundraising campaign will be in effect through the end of September.

“It’s very important for CBX and the whole community to support this binational effort,” said Jorge Goytortua, the CEO of CBX.

Goytortua and Muñoz took part in a Wednesday morning news conference to announce the campaign, this will be the fourth year the facility and its passengers have pitched in.

The goal is to raise at least $20,000, money that will help people like Alejandra Vargas and her autistic son Jacob.

“Thanks to the people who donate we are better, my son can talk now because he was non-verbal,” said Vargas.

According to Vargas, her son has made great strides while receiving services and care in Tijuana where she lives, all paid for by CRIT.

“It has changed my son in a way he can live outside in the world, before he was just in my house didn’t talk to anyone, he went to school but it was all virtual, he’s now in public school — they give us classes to see how you can help your son, so it’s not just the children but us too.”

According to Goytortua, when travelers purchase their CBX passes, they’ll be asked to contribute if they choose to.
