State Rep. Claudia Ordaz, D-Texas, claims she’s been falsely accused of being present to make quorum while dealing with a personal health matter. Ordaz took to social media on Friday, shortly before 12 p.m., saying troopers with the Department of Public Safety showed up at her family member’s home looking for her. The El Pasoan stated that her family was harassed. Ordaz claims she is being falsely accused of being involved in “political games,” viewing Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s actions as “a deliberate abuse of power and an intimidation tactic.
It is with a troubled heart that I write this, literally from a hospital waiting room. From the very beginning, I have made it clear: I will not be in the chamber due to a personal health matter. Yet today, DPS officers showed up to a member of my family’s home looking for me. On top of that, I am now being falsely accused of being in the chamber to make quorum. Harassing my family, spreading lies, and dragging my name into political games is beyond unacceptable – it is a deliberate abuse of power and an intimidation tactic. I do not appreciate any of it, and neither side is helping the cause.

On Monday, Ordaz explained to KTSM she was excused from the legislative session for a personal health matter. She pointed out in a statement that she stands in “full solidarity with my Democratic colleagues who have broken quorum to stop this shameless power grab. They are standing up for every Texan’s right to fair representation.”
Texas Republicans on Friday warned they would escalate efforts to end a nearly weeklong holdout by Democrats if they don’t return to vote on new congressional voting maps sought by President Donald Trump in a widening battle over redistricting across the U.S.
The dozens of Texas House Democrats who left the state on Aug. 3 have shown no signs of buckling for now: A group of them was headed to California to meet with Gov. Gavin Newsom, who wants to redraw his own state’s lines in retaliation if Texas puts in place redrawn maps for the 2026 midterm elections.
