Posted on August 8, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 34-year-old woman was arrested after stealing a vehicle and then becoming involved in a hit-and-run crash on Thursday, Aug. 7, in East El Paso County, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Juana Camacho of Tornillo, Texas, was charged with theft of property and collision involving damage. She was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a total bond set at $21,000.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Aug. 7, deputies responded to a stolen vehicle along the 14800 block of Las Colonias Road, EPCSO said.

The investigation revealed that a 2021 white Chevrolet Silverado, valued at $70,000, was stolen, according to EPCSO.

The Sheriff’s Office said roughly 20 minutes later, deputies were dispatched to the intersection of North Clint-San Elizario Road and Alameda Avenue for a vehicle crash involving the stolen Silverado.

When deputies arrived, they learned that the Silverado had fled westbound on Alameda Avenue, EPCSO said.

A “Be on the Lookout” (B.O.L.O.) alert was issued to the surrounding agencies, EPCSO said.

According to EPCSO, a short time later, the Silverado was found abandoned in the desert area south of Eaton Manor and Flamborough Drive.

At roughly 9 p.m., the El Paso Police Department notified the Sheriff’s Office that they had detained a woman who matched the description provided in the B.O.L.O., EPCSO said.

The woman, later identified as Camacho, was transported to the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station, where detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division took over the case, the Sheriff’s Office said.

EPCSO said during questioning, Camacho admitted to stealing the Silverado and fleeing the scene of the crash.
