EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A hiker in the Mundy’s Gap area of the Franklin Mountains needed to be airlifted off the mountain on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 9 and then taken to the hospital by ambulance, an El Paso Fire Department spokespeson said.
The male hiker appeared to be suffering from heat exhaustion, the spokesperson said. Two other hikers who were not injured were escorted down the mountain as well.
The El Paso Fire Department’s Combined Search and Rescue Team was called out to Mundy’s Gap about a hiker in distress.
The hiker who needed assistance was airlifted off the mountain and transferred to an ambulance. The patient suffered minor injuries, the spokesperson said.
A Customs and Border Protection helicopter assisted with the airlift operation.
