EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — For more than 50 years, Claire’s has been a popular mall-based destination for teens and tweens known for its accessories and ear-piercing services.
The company, however, has had some rocky financial times in recent years.
This summer, the company has filed for bankruptcy for the second time since 2018.
Under the latest filing, Claire’s, which also operates the ICING brand, plans to initially close 18 stores, according to court documents obtained by KTSM. None of those stores are in the El Paso region.
The company has said it may close more stores in the future, according to its court filings.
According to the company’s website, it operates seven stores in the El Paso area — at Shoppes at Solana (formerly Sunland Park Mall); the Outlet Shoppes at El Paso; Cielo Vista Mall; Bassett Place; Las Palmas Marketplace; a location inside a Walmart at 9441 Alameda; and Mesilla Valley Mall in Las Cruces.

- Union Town Mall, Claire’s, Uniontown, Pennsylvania
- Ford City Mall, Claire’s, Chicago
- Northtown, Mall Claire’s, Blaine, Minnesota
- Bay City Town Center, Claire’s, Bay City, Michigan
- Eastdale Mall Claire’s, Montgomery, Alabama
