EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Community College (EPCC) Licensed Vocational Nursing Program celebrated 25 graduates with a pinning ceremony on Friday, Aug. 8.
According to the news release by EPCC, the pinning ceremony marked the graduates’ accomplishments through a “culmination of months of rigorous study, clinical practice and personal dedication.”

During the ceremony, the presentation of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing honored a student and faculty excellence, EPCC said.
EPCC said Sara Lucas received the DAISY Award for student nurse, and Barbara Vasquez received the DAISY Award for nursing faculty.
“Their knowledge, dedication, and unwavering belief in these students have made today possible,” EPCC Vocational Nursing Program Coordinator Melissa Robertson said. “We have a really great program, and we are super proud of all of our graduates.”
In addition, the graduates were reminded that those who confirmed their intent to continue have secured a seat in EPCC’s Associate Degree in Nursing Transition Program, the college said.
According to EPCC, the program is two semesters that are designed to give licensed vocational nurses an opportunity to build on their skills and prepare for expanded roles in the nursing program.
“You were able to handle everything, the long days, the complex coursework, and life outside of school,” EPCC Dean of Nursing Dr. Hafid Guerrero said. “This is one of the biggest and closest classes we’ve had in years, and you will now be the ones to bring comfort and care to patients from their first moments to their last.”
As the ceremony ended, each grad received their nursing pin, a “symbol of their entry into the profession and a reminder of the values they will uphold as licensed vocational nurses,” read the news release.
