Indian LodgeA 1939 promotional brochure for Indian Lodge boasted of a hotel so picturesque that visiting amateur and professional photographers alike declared that it was “almost impossible to get pictures lacking in beauty and contrast.” The sentiment is even more true today, thanks to a two-and-a-half-year, $3.5 million renovation unveiled to the public on June 1. The only hotel operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife, Indian Lodge proves itself once again to be a refreshing, rustic escape.From Balmorhea, the last half hour of the drive toward Indian Lodge winds through Limpia Canyon’s green valleys and dolomitic hill faces, the long boulders created by ancient lava flows.
