EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The 2025 Education Service Center Region 19 (ESC19) Teachers of the Year were revealed during an awards celebration on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Starlight Event Center.
The winners are as follows, according to ESC19:

- Rachel Gomez, Sierra Blanca Elementary – 2025 ESC19 Elementary Teacher of the Year
- Brenda Carrillo, Tornillo High School – 2025 ESC19 Secondary Teacher of the Year

“Both winners are shining examples of educators returning to their hometown communities to give back with passion, dedication, and a true commitment to their profession. It is inspiring to see former students become the very teachers who now shape the lives of the next generation,” read the news release by ESC19.
This comes after 23 outstanding teachers from area districts and charter schools competed in a rigorous selection process for the honor of representing our region at the state level.
These educators were first selected as campus Teachers of the Year, then chosen to represent their respective districts, and on Saturday, they competed for the title of Regional Teacher of the Year.
As part of the competition, each teacher underwent panel interviews and submitted multiple essays detailing their teaching philosophies and achievements.
The first-place winners of this regional competition will move on to compete for the title of Texas Teacher of the Year, with the announcement expected later this year, according to ESC19.
Nine state winners from the region have gone on to compete at the national level, according to ESC19.
