EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Texas gas prices are on the rise ahead of the Labor Day weekend, and El Paso drivers can be impacted as they are paying the most in gas in the state, according to AAA Texas.

“While fewer travelers typically hit the road for this end-of-summer holiday compared to Memorial Day or the Fourth of July, the majority of those celebrating will still be driving to their destinations,” AAA Texas said.
The statewide gas price average is $2.81 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel. That price is seven cents more when compared to this day last week and is 15 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.
Of the “major metropolitan areas” surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.09 per gallon, while drivers in McAllen are paying the least at $2.61 per gallon, according to AAA Texas.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.21, which is seven cents more when compared to this day last week and 15 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
AAA Texas said summer fuel prices have held relatively steady and are expected to ease as the fall season begins.
However, global events can quickly and unexpectedly influence prices.
“Even with a slight uptick ahead of Labor Day, Texans have enjoyed stable gas prices throughout much of the summer driving season,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “As we transition into fall, drivers may see some additional relief at the pump, though hurricane activity or global events could still cause sudden price swings.”
