EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Indiana state Sen. Cyndi Carrasco has been named the 2025 Canutillo High School Outstanding Ex.

Carrasco, a Class of 1998 graduate, is a lawyer and legislator with a long career in public service. She will be recognized during Homecoming festivities the week of Sept. 22-26, the Canutillo Independent School District said in a news release.
She represents Indiana’s 36th District in the state senate and also serves as vice president and general counsel at the University of Indianapolis.
Carrasco earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and a law degree from the McKinney School of Law at Indiana University, according to Canutillo ISD.
“Cyndi Carrasco is a shining example of the excellence that begins in Canutillo,” Canutillo High School Principal Candace Marrufo said. “Her success in law, higher education and public service shows our students that they can make a difference not just locally, but nationally.”
In the Indiana State Senate, Canutillo ISD said that Carrasco, a Republican, serves as the ranking member of the Corrections and Criminal Law Committee. She also serves on the Environmental Affairs, Insurance and Financial Institutions, and Judiciary committees.
Carrasco has been recognized for her professional and civic leadership, having served as trustee of Saint Mary of the Woods College and as a member of the Indiana University Alumni Executive Council. She also served as co-president of the Indiana University Latino Alumni Association.
At Canutillo High School, she was a cheerleader, an active member of the Masque and Gavel Club, and a participant in UIL competitions, including state-level events. She also shone in several one-act plays, according to Canutillo ISD.
She lives in the Indianapolis metropolitan area with her husband, Robert, and daughter Sarah.
