KTSM News – NM airports get more than $21M for improvements

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The New Mexico congressional delegation announced that the state would be getting more than $21 million in federal funding for airport upgrades across New Mexico.

These grants are funded by Congress through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Infrastructure Grant Program and the Airport Improvement Program. Upgrades will be made at the Santa Fe Regional Airport, Las Cruces International Airport, and Taos Regional Airport.

Other airports that also received funding include Lea County Regional Airport, Lordsburg Municipal Airport, Crownpoint Airport, Springer Municipal Airport, Carrizozo Municipal Airport, Andrew Othole Memorial Airport, Artesia Municipal Airport, Portales Municipal Airport, Deming City Airport, Clayton Municipal Airport, Roswell Air Center, Hatch Municipal Airport, and Las Vegas Municipal Airport.

Here is a breakdown of airports in Southern New Mexico that will be receiving funding, with descriptions from the congressional delegation:

Las Cruces International Airport, $443,282: This funds a portion of a project to replace the existing automated weather observing system. An Airport Infrastructure grant funds the remaining eligible portion of the project.

Deming Municipal Airport, $337,127: This grant funds the design phase, for a project to rehabilitate 8,018 feet of existing paved Taxiway A and will reseal 8,018 feet of existing Runway 8/26 pavement.

Carrizozo Municipal Airport: $333,000: This project installs the precision approach path indicator system for Runway 6/24.

Lordsburg Muncipal Airport, $323,483: This grant funds a portion of the final phase of constructing 18,253 feet of perimeter fencing. An Airport Improvement Program grant funds the remaining eligible portion of the project.

Hatch Municipal Airport, $228,727: This grant funds a portion of the final phase of work, which consists of construction of a project to reconstruct 4,070 square yards of the existing General Aviation Apron pavement. An Airport Infrastructure grant funds the remaining eligible portion of the project.
