EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Las Cruces-based League of Women Voters of Southern New Mexico (LWVSNM) will hold a public meeting featuring a panel of experts who will discuss New Mexico’s shortage of doctors.
The free meeting begins at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Doña Ana Community College Workforce Center, 2345 Nevada Ave.
The panelists will be: Dr. Arthur Berkson, president of the Doña Ana County Medical Society; Fred Nathan, Think New Mexico founder and executive director; Las Cruces journalist Walt Rubel; and Kathe Stark, Patients Primero Steering Committee, a bipartisan citizen advocacy group.
“Too many doctors and medical providers are leaving our community and our state, and it’s created a negative impact on our residents’ access to healthcare,” said Joanne Turnbull, chairwoman of the LWVSNM Healthcare Committee. “The panel discussion will give us credible information on this topic which, in turn, will help guide our organization on how to advocate for improvement.”
Turnbull will provide opening comments and there will be time for audience questions after the panelists’ remarks.
The meeting will also be on teleconference via Zoom, using the link — https://us02web.zoom.us/j/827344928 — and entering passcode 693935.
