KTSM News – Escobar wants answers on ‘deep concerns’ with postal service

Posted on September 8, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, is calling on the El Paso postmaster to addresss what she is calling “deep concerns” over postal services that have been brought to her attention by constituents and postal workers alike.

Escobar said she sent a letter to El Paso Postmaster Cindi J. Tabbot to address these issues, which include low morale among employees and complaints about service from El Paso residents.

Escobar said she sent the letter last week after a meeting with senior regional staff including the El Paso postmaster on Aug. 21.

Among her concerns, Escobar said, constituents have reported that they have not received mail at their designated cluster box for months at a time.

“USPS is an agency that my constituents seem to consistently have problems navigating, and in turn, open casework with my office,” Escobar wrote in her letter. “There have been several types of USPS casework inquiries, with the most recent trend being El Pasoans not receiving mail at their designated cluster box for months on end.”

Escobar also said that postal workers told her that a vehicle crashed into the Northgate Postal Office over a year ago, creating significant damage, including a large hole in one of the walls.

The damage has not been repaired, Escobar said.

“When I brought up this incident and others during our meeting, there was no meaningful acknowledgment of the issue and certainly no sense of urgency or responsibility to fix it. In fact, there was deflection instead of concern. This is totally unacceptable and illustrates one of the likely reasons why morale among employees is so low,” Escobar wrote in her letter.

Escobar said she has been communicating regularly with the local National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Branch 505 to “learn about ongoing issues with staffing, vehicle maintenance, facility conditions, and overall morale,” Escobar said.

She also asked that the local postmaster general answer questions on staffing and hiring challenges, work conditions, leadership engagement, operations and maintenance and facility conditions.

“El Pasoans deserve high-quality USPS service, and I look forward to working together to do just that. Thank you for your full and fair consideration of this matter, consistent with applicable statute and agency guidelines. I respectfully request a response to the questions and concerns I have raised above, no later than October 1, 2025,” Escobar wrote in her letter.

We have reached out to the U.S. Postal Service for comment and response to what Escobar has said.
