KTSM News – Body cam captures double murder suspect’s last moments on I-20

Posted on September 22, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Body cam video obtained by KTSM 9 News shows Jeffrey Scott Baker’s final moments as deputies with the Reeves County Sheriff’s Office tried to approach him on I-20 last week.

Man wanted for parents’ murder kills himself on I-20 in Reeves County

As we have previously reported, Baker was wanted for the murder of his parents in Oklahoma and was last seen at a Dollar General in El Paso before he was spotted again walking on I-20 last Tuesday, Sept. 16.

The Pushmataha County Sheriff’s Office said earlier that Tuesday, Baker was seen passing Sierra Blanca going eastbound in an SUV that was later confirmed stolen out of El Paso.

Officials then located a male subject who was later identified as Baker, walking on I-20 eastbound just miles from Toyah, Texas.

Footage shows two sheriff deputies arriving to where Baker was walking on I-20, and the male deputy is seen stepping out of his vehicle and commands Baker to stop reaching into his bag.

The video shows Baker sitting on the ground located near the right emergency lane on I-20.

The male deputy commands Baker to stop reaching into his backpack and to stay sitting down. The deputy then commands Baker to put his hands up.

The footage shows Baker ignoring the deputy’s commands, taking off his backpack, and reaching for something inside the bag.

The deputy is then seen stepping back and searching for something in his vehicle while yelling at a female deputy that Baker is reaching for something, and then gunshots can be heard in the background.

The male deputy then tells the female deputy to “Call it in,” and says that Baker just pulled a weapon.

Baker can then be seen lying on the ground, and the male deputy commands Baker to raise his hands. The deputy is also seen raising his weapon and stepping behind the left passenger door of his vehicle, while the female deputy is seen standing behind the left front door of her vehicle.

The video shows the male deputy continuing to yell at Baker, “Let me see your hands,” while keeping his weapon positioned towards Baker.

The male deputy then tells the female deputy to request supervisors and another department to the scene.

Vehicles can be seen passing by the scene, and Baker is still lying on the ground motionless.

The female deputy then speaks into her radio, saying that Baker “shot himself in the head. The male deputy then tells the female deputy that they need to stop traffic so that they can approach Baker.

Two Border Patrol agents then approach the scene, and the deputy asks them if they could help “clear” Baker and says that when Baker shot himself, he still had a weapon in his hand.

After a couple of minutes, the deputies and Border Patrol agents approach Baker, and Baker can be seen motionless while lying on the ground.

The video shows the male deputy commanding Baker to put his hands up as he approaches him.

The male deputy is then seen removing the weapon from Baker’s right hand and checking his pulse.

The male deputy then tells the others that Baker has a “slight” pulse and that the coast is clear for other law enforcement personnel to approach the scene.

Video shows the male deputy then stepping away, reaching for his phone inside his vehicle, and telling his commander that Baker might be the guy in the BOLO.

BOLO information previously released by the Pushmataha County Sheriff’s Office stated that Baker was a person of interest in the murders of his parents in Oklahoma. The information was then passed down to the Reeves County Sheriff’s Office, where they then confronted Baker.
