EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Color guards from 40 to 45 El Paso organizations gathered Saturday, Sept. 27 for the annual Massing of the Colors event.
The event was held at the El Paso Community College Administrative Services Center and was hosted by the El Paso chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars.
This was the 49th time that the local chapter has conducted this event, which is designed to show patriotism and foster community spirit. The Massing of the Colors is the signature event of the MOWW each year.

Nationally, the MOWW has been conducting these ceremonies for about 100 years.
During Saturday’s ceremony in El Paso, about 40 to 45 color guards gathered to show off their skill in presenting the flag.
Most of the organizations that participated were scouts or JROTC units from area high schools. But there were also some veterans groups as well as El Paso Police and Fire, which participated as well.
“Massing of the Colors is a patriotic ceremony held to rededicate our faith in the United States, and to present our support to the National Colors and the Servicemen and Servicewomen those Colors represent. It combines the colors and color guards of Active, Reserve and National Guard military components (units), and veteran, civic and patriotic organizations,” according to the MOWW.
