EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Fort Bliss has a new Garrison commander who is in charge of making sure that the sprawling Army post runs smoothly and is a good place for soldiers and families to live and work.
Col. Michael Soyka took over as Garrison commander in August and has been on the job for a few months now.
Soyka talked with KTSM anchor Andy Morgan about his role at Fort Bliss and the installation’s mission, among other topics. You can catch the inteview during the 6:30 p.m. newscast on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
The Garrison commander is the Army equivalent of a city manager. Soyka oversees an organization that runs virtually all facees of life at Fort Bliss.
Prior to taking over as Garrison commander, Soyka served as the chief of staff for the 1st Armored Division’s rear detachment while the division headquarters and other elements were deployed to Europe.
He had prevously done his battalion command at Fort Bliss, guiding the historic 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment during the Covid years.
