EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The family-owned New Deal Furniture El Paso will close its doors forever with a final store liquidation starting on October 2.

The store will hold its going-out-of-business sale on Thursday, Oct. 2, at its location at 7130 Gateway East, across from Cielo Vista Mall.
The two-story showroom is filled with a vast selection of quality home furnishings priced to move quickly. Home accessories will be discounted 50 percent, and all fine area rugs will be discounted 65 percent, according to the news release.
Featured brands include BenchMade, Elements, Flexsteel, Hekman, HomeStretch, Howard Miller, Jaipur Home, Kingsdown, Man Wah, Mayo Furniture, New Classic, Palliser, Serta, Tempur-Pedic and many more. Management encourages early shopping for the best selection.
The store was founded in 1947 by Henry A. and Magdalena Silva as New Deal Mercantile.
The back-then general store offered a wide range of products, from groceries to kerosene heaters, catering to a large farming community, according to a news release by New Deal Furniture El Paso.
However, in the late 1950s, the Silvas’ son-in-law, Robert V. Falvey, joined the business. With their approval, Falvey added a furniture annex, setting the stage for the company’s evolution into a full-service home furnishings retailer.
Falvey later became president of the family-owned and operated business and, with the help of his children, guided the company’s growth for nearly five decades until his passing in 2014, according to the news release.
The store then continued under the leadership of Falvey’s wife, Juanita Falvey, who kept. the family tradition of quality products, fair prices, and attentive service.
“For 78 years, New Deal Furniture El Paso has been part of the community, and we are deeply grateful for the generations of customers who placed their trust in us. It has been our family’s honor to serve this region, and we thank everyone who has supported us throughout the years,” Juanita Falvey said.
As the Borderland community grew, so did the store. Starting with its original store on Alameda Ave., the company opened a second location in 1991 — a 64,000-square-foot showroom on Gateway East, where it still operates.
Together with its 50,000-square-foot warehouse, the news release states these facilities allowed New Deal Furniture El Paso to become known as the place “where smart furniture shoppers shop,” serving customers throughout El Paso, the Borderland, New Mexico, and beyond.
Equally important has been the family’s commitment to giving back, from helping establish the Falvey Silva Senior Center in Ysleta to supporting the El Paso Opera and local charities and churches, according to the news release.
The showroom will be available for sale or lease along with a 50,000-square-foot warehouse. For more information on the liquidation sale, visit www.newdealfurniture.com.
