KTSM News – CRRUA says it has addressed 36% of concerns from EPA

Posted on October 3, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Camino Real Regional Utility Authority says it is now met 36 percent of concerns identified by the U.S. Environemental Protection Agency from earlier this year.

In February, the EPA conducted a review of CRRUA and identified 64 areas of concern that needed to be corrected, the utility said.

As of Friday, Oct. 3, CRRUA has corrected 23, a completion rate of 36%, it said.

“The EPA report is separate from the 2023 Sanitary Survey conducted by the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED,)” CRRUA Executive Director Juan Crosby said. “But they essentially perform the same function, to identify operational areas needing improvement. Regarding terminology, the EPA uses the phrase areas of concern and NMED uses the word deficiencies.”

Similar to the NMED Progress checklist CRRUA initiated in early 2024 to track corrections identified in the Sanitary Survey, CRRUA is tracking improvements on the EPA list of areas of concern.

“We are fully transparent in presenting findings identified by our regulatory agencies and our progress in correcting them through systematic improvements and upgrades that result in reliable service and water that continues to meet government standards. I encourage the public to track our progress on the CRRUA website,” Crosby said.

You can find the EPA checklist by clicking here and the NMED checklist by clicking here.

CRRUA provides water and wastewater service to Santa Teresa and Sunland Park.
