EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A man is dead following a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle that happened last weekend in far East El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department.
As KTSM previously reported, the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, near the intersection of 2100 N. Zaragoza and 2000 Sun Fire.
El Paso Police confirmed the pedestrian, identified as 22-year-old Luis Francisco Salcido, has died.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Salcido was crossing Zaragoza/Sun Fire at the crosswalk “going against the do not cross sign,” according to EPPD.
Salcido made it across to the median and then stepped off. At the same time, an SUV was approaching the intersection, towing two other vehicles.
Salcido was then struck by the SUV, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Police say the contributing factor to the crash is a pedestrian on the freeway, and the investigation is ongoing.
If anyone has any information on this crash, they are asked to call EPPD at (915) 832-4400 or Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-8477 to remain anonymous.
This is the 47th traffic fatality of 2025, compared to 53 last year.
