EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A former mariachi teacher from Deming is currently being held without bond after having a sexual relationship with one of his students, according to the Office of the Sixth Judicial District Attorney.
Gerard Flores, 38, is facing a charge of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, two counts of criminal sexual penetration, and two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor, according to the DA’s Office.
During the detention hearing, Flores was determined to be a danger to the victim and to the community, which led to him being held without bond.
Flores was arrested after a 14-year-old girl disclosed to the Deming Police Department that she had been having an intimate relationship with her mariachi teacher, who was identified as Flores, according to the DA’s Office.
During a forensic interview, the victim stated that the relationship began in late last year while she was in 8th grade and while she was participating in the school’s mariachi program, according to the DA’s Office.
Flores was taken into custody at his residence on Sept. 16 and will remain in jail pending trial, according to the DA’s Office.
