EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso ISD Fine Arts Department wants the Borderland community to check out the work from some of the district’s talented young artists.
The district’s newest art exhibit, “Furry and Feathered Art History: Famous Masterworks Inspired by the Animal Kingdom,” showcases the work from the district’s students who have reinterpreted some of the world’s most iconic paintings through the lens of the animal world, the district said.
The exhibit invites students and viewers alike to imagine what would happen if animals took over the art world. For example, think “Mona Lisa” as a dog, “Starry Night” filled with colorful parrots, or “The Scream” reimagined as a lion’s roar.
An opening reception will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the EPISD Stanton Gallery, 1014 N. Stanton St. The exhibit will run through Oct. 22, and admission is free and open to the public.
Select pieces from the show will also be featured at the El Paso Zoo’s “Boo at the Zoo” event on Oct. 25–26, giving students the chance to showcase their artwork to an even larger audience.
Andrea Smith, El Paso ISD’s visual arts facilitator, said the exhibit highlights both the district’s incredible talent and the power of imagination.
“It’s amazing to see how our students can take something as classic as a famous painting and completely transform it with their creativity,” Smith said. “Seeing the variety of submissions reminds us of how much artistic talent we have across El Paso ISD.”
The Stanton Gallery is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The art gallery will be closed next week and will reopen on Oct. 20.
