KTSM News – Local resident gifts little library to Franklin Hills Park

Posted on October 10, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A resident in a West El Paso neighborhood purchased a small library that was installed this week at Franklin Hills Park to help spread the love for books in the community.

The Parks team, City Rep. Alejandra Chavez, and the resident who purchased the library, Frantz Berthaud, had a small unveiling ceremony this past Wednesday, Oct. 8

Berthaud says he had the idea of adding the little library so that children could take a free book and leave another book in return at the park. The library is located at Franklin Hills Park at 6112 Franklin Dove Ave.

Berthaud says he and his family live right across the street, and they donated to the park to promote the love and access of reading.

“We have an eight-year-old, and it’s something that we preach inside our house and so we want to make sure that we’re spreading that same message across the community.”

Berthaud says the process began over a year ago as he and his family tried to figure out how they could make the library possible. After everything was set into place, Berthaud was able to purchase it.

Berthaud’s wife, Ana Whitescarver, says they moved to the neighborhood from the East Coast and convinced her husband to purchase a little library, as they had one installed in their past home.

“I think it just broadens our perspective on the world in general. It gives us an opportunity to learn about different topics or about people from different cultures.”
