EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — For the third straight year, Socorro ISD middle schools were the top-performing schools in Algebra 1 across the El Paso regoin.
And as such, they were recognized by nonprofit organization CREEED.
CREEED’s Algebra in Middle (AIM High) program honors and rewards faculty and staff at the top-performing middle schools, recognizing that it isn’t just teachers who contribute to student success, but the entire staff.
This year, CREEED awarded $54,850 in gift cards at the following schools in SISD:
- Col. John O. Ensor Middle School – $16,750 (86% passing rate)
- Montwood Middle School – $9,200 (84% passing rate)
- Jane A. Hambric Middle School – $8,700 (83% passing rate)
- SPC. Rafael Hernando III Middle School – $8,550 (83% passing rate)
- SSG. Manuel R. Puentes Middle School – $11,650 (82% passing rate)
“Three years in a row is no accident,” said Richard A. Castro, CREEED board chair. “This tradition of excellence proves that Algebra I is a priority for Socorro ISD middle schools, which allows students to gain skills that open doors to higher education and careers.”
Socorro ISD Superintendent James Vasquez said that CREEED wants to spur educational and economic success for the El Paso area.
“Education is the key to prosperity. By doing what we do on a daily basis with support of the parents, it is about making a difference not only today but 10 years down the road,” Vasquez said. “What does the prosperity of El Paso look like down the road?”
CREEED is a non-profit organization focused on increasing college readiness and completion rates.
