KTSM News – Las Cruces library system says bankruptcy of vendor will slow new additions to collection

Posted on October 14, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Las Cruces Public Libraries system is looking for new venders to supply library material after its primary book distributor declared bankruptcy earlier this month.

Baker and Taylor announced their bankruptcy on Oct. 7.

City officials also said that the bankruptcy will slow the addition of new material to the City’s library system.

In the interim, staff will rely on alternative methods for purchasing, the City of Las Cruces said.

However, the library will not have a steady flow of new materials until an alternative vendor is secured, the City said.

Patrons may notice a longer wait for items that are placed on hold, the City added.

“Library staff were surprised that Baker and Taylor announced they would be shutting their doors in January 2026,” Library Deputy Director Sarah Booth said. “Library staff is committed to ensuring our patrons get new and replacement items during this transition period. We understand how frustrating this may be and are working diligently to find a new vendor.”
