EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Two men who were arrested in connection with the shooting death of another man in 2020 will not be facing any charges for the actual murder, El Paso District Attorney James Montoya said in a statement on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Montoya stated the following about the murder charges for Dalton Delgadillo and Angel Duran, who were both accused of shooting and killing their friend Ramon Vargas in December 2020.
“While Mr. Delgadillo was found to be in possession of the firearm used to kill Ramon Vargas, the investigation was unable to conclusively determine who actually shot Vargas or the motive, if any, for doing so. As a result, at this time, there is insufficient evidence to bring or prove any additional charges.”
According to online court records, Delgadillo pleaded guilty to deadly conduct/discharge of a firearm last month and was sentenced to three years in prison. He was also sentenced last month to eight days in jail for unlawful carrying of a weapon.
There are no charges for Angel Duran as of Wednesday, according to court records.
As KTSM 9 News previously reported, Ramon Vargas, 18, was found shot to death in the desert area off Dyer Street near Sun Valley Drive in December 2020.
Dalton Delgadillo, 21, and Angel Duran, 17, were both arrested in connection with Vargas’ murder.
Court documents obtained by KTSM 9 News state that both Delgadillo and Duran were intoxicated when the shooting happened.
After being placed into custody, Duran told police that Delgadillo was the one who shot Vargas and could not provide a motive as to why he was shot. Duran then told police that after the shooting, Delgadillo drove Duran home and assaulted Duran, according to court documents.
During a separate interview, Delgadillo told police that Duran was the one who shot Vargas and told police that he didn’t remember what led to Vargas’ death, according to court documents.
