SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Water service to 600 colonias in Tijuana could be interrupted later this week as the city’s public services commission needs to replace about 300 feet of water main on the east side of the city.
Officials have not released an exact date for the repairs, only say saying that the work will take place by the weekend.
The line ruptured and was temporarily fixed on Sept. 9.
As a way to avoid a major water spill, it has to be replaced.
“We’ve done preparations. Our goal is to not affect service for a long time. If it does happen, it should only last a few hours. We’re doing our best from making sure the project doesn’t go longer, days or weeks,” said Jesús García Castro, Tijuana’s Public Services Director.
García Castro stated that when the line first “blew up,” 632 neighborhoods had to go without water until the initial repair was made.
He figures the same portions of the city will have to go without water.
“Common sense tells me that yes, there will be outages, but we’ll have to determine how widespread they will be. We’ll wait on the technical experts tell us once they embark on the work.
The city is asking residents that for the meantime, and as a way to prepare, to store water in buckets and other containers.
It plans on having water trucks deployed throughout the city where people can find water if they run out.
