KTSM News – Rep. Veronica Escobar discusses SNAP funding impact in El Paso

Posted on November 6, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, with local faith and community leaders, will be discussing how cutting funding to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits is impacting the Borderland.

As KTSM previously reported, nearly 70 thousand households in El Paso County are affected by the recent cut to SNAP. The Trump Administration announced on Nov. 3 that the program will be partially funded in November, but benefits could still take weeks or months to reach those in need.

El Paso County commissioners approved a response plan on Nov. 3 to address food insecurity. The plan has the County Attorney’s Office review possible legal action and send letters to Texas state leaders, urging the usage of state reserve funds.

Additionally, the plan would authorize the Community Service Department to launch the Temporary Electric Assistance Program, which is a short-term utility-relief program. The program will continue until Sept. 30, 2026, or until funding runs out.
