EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in the beating death of a fellow inmate at the El Paso County Jail Annex nearly two years ago, the El Paso District Attorney’s Office said.
Cristian Carrillo, 27, pleaded guility to murder on Tuesday, Nov. 4 in connection with the beating death of Jesus Torres, 57, the DA’s Office said.
Carrillo was one of six inmates initially charged in Torres’ death.
With his plea, Carrillo admitted to serving as a lookout for other inmates who attacked Torres inside a shared cell on Nov. 26, 2023.
Because the cases for Carrillo’s co-defendants remain pending, District Attorney James
Montoya is withholding making a comment on the case’s outcome.
Assistant District Attorney Talisa Gutierrez represented the State of Texas in the
prosecution of this case.
