El Paso Matters – Did more deportations take place from Texas than any other state in 2024?

Posted on February 10, 2026

Yes.

In fiscal year 2024, more than 156,000 deportations took place from Texas, according to the latest available Immigration and Customs Enforcement removals data. The 2024 fiscal year ran from October 2023 through September 2024.

The figures reflect the states where ICE field offices that carried out removals are headquartered, not necessarily where people were arrested or detained. Deportations can occur from large detention or transportation hubs, meaning departures from Texas may include people arrested elsewhere.

The ICE removals data includes people initially arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection who were later deported by ICE.  It does not include people removed or returned by CBP.

Nationwide, ICE recorded 235,577 deportations in fiscal year 2024. After Texas, the states with the highest number of ICE deportations were Arizona (24,397), Louisiana (17,524) and California (10,232).
