Posted on May 13, 2025

McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized $930,000 in cocaine from a car trying to enter the U.S. from Mexico at the Del Rio port of entry, the agency says.

The seizure occurred Friday at the Del Rio International Bridge and comes as the agency is reporting an increase in high-dollar cocaine seizures at ports of entry in South Texas.

Officers say a car driven by a 75-year-old Mexican man was sent for secondary inspection where they found 32 packages of cocaine hidden in the seat of the car.

The drugs weighed nearly 70 pounds and were detected using a nonintrusive inspection system, CBP says.

“This significant narcotic seizure emphasizes the steadfast commitment our officers have to keeping our community safe,” Del Rio Port Director Liliana Flores said. “These types of seizures reinforce the importance of CBP’s mission to secure our borders.”
