Border Report – 26 guns seized from bus heading in to Mexico

Posted on December 3, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — Border officers seized more than two dozen guns from a bus that was heading into Mexico from South Texas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

Officers with CBP’s Office of Field Operations said they found the weapons, including 43 magazines of various calibers, in a Mexican-bound commercial bus on Friday at the Hidalgo International Bridge in Hidalgo, Texas.

Officers were conducting outbound inspections — vehicles leaving the U.S. — and used X-rays and a K-9 unit to examine the bus.

A photo provided by CBP showed that most of the 26 weapons were handguns.

Carlos Rodriguez, the port director for the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry praised officers for maintaining “strict vigilance” on both the inbound and outbound traffic.

“Their inspections experience, attention to detail and technology all contributed to this significant outbound weapons seizure,” he said.
