Border Report – 700 rounds of ammo, weapons headed to Mexico seized at South Texas border crossing

Posted on June 12, 2024

McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — Federal officers seized a cache of over 700 rounds of ammunition and four weapons at a port of entry on Monday in Eagle Pass, Texas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said.

North Carolina resident allegedly got $100 to smuggle bullets to Mexico

The guns and ammunition, as well as seven magazines, were headed south into Piedras Negras, Mexico via the Camino Real International Bridge.

The cache was found hidden within a plastic tote in a trailer that was being pulled by an older model pickup, CBP officials said Tuesday.

The truck had been sent for secondary inspection after officers were alerted by non-intrusive inspection systems.

“This outbound enforcement action illustrates CBP’s ongoing commitment to our priority border security mission and helping to keep our border communities safe,” CBP Eagle Pass Port Director Pete Beattie said.

Homeland Security Investigations out of San Antonio is investigating the case, Beattie posted on X.
