McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — South Texas border officers confiscated $76,185 in undeclared cash that had been hidden in a bus heading into Mexico, officials said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized the cash Saturday at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge, which connects Laredo, Texas, to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, the agency said.
“This was an excellent outbound currency seizure by our frontline officers,” Laredo Port Director Alberto Flores said. “Unreported currency is often found to be proceeds from illicit activity by transnational criminal organizations. This enforcement action shows CBP’s commitment to disrupting this flow and illustrates CBP’s effort to keep our communities safe.”
Travelers must disclose when carrying over $10,000 in currency, or face federal prosecution.
