McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — A new art exhibit has opened in Eagle Pass, Texas, that touts the beauty of the U.S.-Mexico border region.

The “Border Is Beautiful Art Exhibition” opened Thursday night and will run through the end of September at the Eagle Pass Art and Culture Center, located 364 Main Street.

The exhibit is free and shows off over 50 different pieces of art depicting life on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“These people have ties to the border, they either grew up here or lived in a border town for a period of time, and we wanted to give them the chance to express themselves and what it feels to them and what it means to them to have grown up in a border town. And what it is for them to be part from here, and part from over there. And we just really wanted to give them the space to be able to, showcase that,” Betty Alvarez, arts center coordinator for the City of Eagle Pass, told Border Report on Friday.

Alvarez says over 80 people attended Thursday night’s opening in the border town of 28,000.

The artists include an eighth-grader who submitted two drawings and the exhibit features photography, 3-D digital art and several pieces representing the Indigenous members of the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas, which has a reservation outside Eagle Pass.

Alvarez says the artists come from northern Mexican towns, like Piedras Negras, which is located across the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass, as well as from other border states, like New Mexico and Arizona.

Come “explore captivating artwork that embodies the essence of life at the border,” the city tweeted on X.
