EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — Migrant apprehensions along the Southwest border hit a new record-low in July.
Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced on Friday that U.S. Border Patrol agents encountered 4,598 people last month, about 1,500 fewer than the previous record of 6,072 in June.
The total number of Border Patrol apprehensions along the Southwest border so far this fiscal year — 224,440 — also represents an 85 percent drop from the same time last year.
According to NewsNation, the El Paso Sector again led in apprehensions in July, with 1,100. The El Paso Sector has led every month since February; however, as of June, the San Diego Sector still holds a narrow lead overall with 47,887, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.
