SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Environmental and community groups are criticizing this week’s move by the White House to sidestep several environmental-protection laws in order to clear the way for more border wall construction.
The Southern Border Communities Coalition says the work will not only damage the landscape, flora and fauna along the southern border, but disrupt the quality of life for people who live in those areas along the border.
In this episode of Border Report Live, Ricky Garza with the coalition tells us about the more than 5,500 truckers have lost their driving privileges in the U.S. due to their lack of basic English skills, according to Mexico’s Northwest Freight Transporters Association.
Back in April, President Trump signed an executive order to reinstitute an existing law mandating all commercial truckers have enough English literacy to read road signs and communicate with law enforcement.
Most of the suspensions are happening in Texas and Arkansas.
States such as California, Washington and New Mexico continue to ignore the president’s order even if it means losing federal highway funds.
