Border Report – Border Report Live: Texas Border Trade Advisory Committee’s economic priorities

Posted on August 25, 2025

HARLINGEN, Texas (Border Report) — The Texas Border Trade Advisory Committee’s latest meeting in Austin focused on expanding roadways and infrastructure feeding into international crossings on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border.

Mission Economic Development Corporation CEO Teclo Garcia joined the latest episode of Border Report Live to break down the committee’s priorities and goals for expanding border infrastructure and economies.

Garcia sits on the committee that is headed by Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson. They met on Aug. 12 and he talks about the necessity for feeder roadways to ensure traffic flows to international bridges, as well as the fast-track bridge permitting process that is resulting in several presidential permits issued recently for international bridges in three South Texas counties, including Cameron County in the Rio Grande Valley.

Border Report South Texas Correspondent Sandra Sanchez also spoke with Garcia about 25% tariffs on Mexico and how that is affecting trade, and about recent ICE raids and the difficulty employers are expressing to him about filling positions in the Rio Grande Valley because employees are afraid to come to work.
