Border Report – CBP seize $1.6M of cocaine at Roma International Bridge

ROMA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Border officers seized $1.6 million worth of cocaine at the Roma International Bridge on Jan. 31 in Roma, Texas.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers encountered a tractor-trailer hauling a commercial shipment of soft drinks making entry to the United States, according to a news release from CBP.


Possible tariffs worry local produce companies

During the inspection of the trailer, officers found 50 packages of cocaine hidden within the shipment of soft drinks.

The packages weighed 120 pounds and had an estimated street value of $1,604,262.

CBP officers turned the truck, drugs and driver over to the Roma Police Department. The driver was arrested and Roma police initiated a criminal investigation.
