Posted on April 24, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Patrick Crusius, the man who will spend the rest of his life in prison for shooting and killing 23 people and injuring 22 others in a hate-inspired mass shooting on Aug. 3, 2019, walked out of an El Paso courtroom for the final time on Tuesday, April 22.

Crusius pleaded guilty to state charges on Monday, April 21, and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The shooter pleaded guilty to one count of capital murder of multiple people and 22 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

El Paso’s District Attorney James Montoya sat down for a one-on-one interview with KTSM 9 News evening anchor, Andy Morgan, to discuss the finality of the Walmart mass shooting case, including the consequential decisions that were made following the August 3rd massacre that altered the course of justice.
