Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas is in Tucson, Arizona, for an operational visit regarding ongoing Southwest Border enforcement efforts.
The Department of Homeland Security announced on Wednesday that Border Patrol agents have seen a 40% drop in migrant encounters since President Joe Biden issued new asylum orders.
The proclamation says, in part, “The entry into the United States of certain noncitizens during emergency border circumstances would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.”
DHS said the proclamation “directed DHS and DOJ to promptly consider issuing regulations addressing the circumstances at the southern border, including any warranted limitations and conditions on asylum eligibility.”
