WILLACY COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man was arrested after he was allegedly caught with more than 200 pounds of liquid methamphetamine, documents revealed.
David Alexandro Aguilar is facing charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, according to federal records.
Aguilar made his initial appearance in court on Tuesday.
At 2:46 p.m. Feb. 10, a trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety conducted a traffic stop on a gray 2023 Nissan Versa for speeding. The driver was identified as Aguilar.
The trooper searched the vehicle and found 24 jugs inside the trunk. The jugs had a “crystal residue” that was coating the lids, the complaint stated.
The trooper escorted Aguilar to the Kingsville Border Patrol station, where they conducted a test on the jugs. The jugs, which weighed a total of 205.86 pounds, tested positive for methamphetamine.
Aguilar was interviewed by DEA and DPS agents, and said he was going to be paid $1,800 to transport the jugs to Dallas or Washington D.C., according to the complaint.
He said he had made similar trips in the past to Houston, but did not think anything of it.
“Aguilar informed agents that the jugs were previously mailed via FedEx to Matamoros, Mexico and then shipped out to Brownsville, Texas where Aguilar was instructed by [his brother in-law] to pick up the jugs,” the complaint stated.
Aguilar gave authorities consent to search his two phones, which contained texts between him and his brother in-law. In the messages, Aguilar asked him in Spanish if the jugs contained fentanyl, to which his brother in-law responded the jugs are liquid for the rocks.
Aguilar has a detention hearing scheduled for Monday morning. He remains held in federal custody without bond.
