EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A former police officer from Mexico was arrested for his alleged involvement in the killing of 19 migrants, authorities announced.
Nineteen migrants from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Mexico were killed on Jan. 21, 2021, when they were shot, killed, and burned by police officers in Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
The former officer, whose name has not been released, was located and arrested in Texas after he fled into the United States three years ago to avoid criminal charges for his alleged involvement in the murders.
He was located in the town of Kyle, approximately 54 miles north of San Antonio.
The fugitive police officer was located by collaborative efforts between RGV Border Patrol, FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the government of Mexico.
Twelve additional police officers from Mexico have been arrested for the alleged involvement in the migrant murders.
