McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The top federal prosecutor in South Texas called a news conference Monday to discuss a new “immigration enforcement” initiative.
U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei is scheduled to hold a news conference at 1 p.m. Monday to discuss a new “initiative related to immigration enforcement and border security,” according to a media advisory from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.
Officials from Border Patrol, the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Texas Department of Public Safety planned to join Ganjei for the news conference.
They’re expected to discuss a major immigration enforcement initative that resulted in more than 50 arrests last week.
Border Patrol and the U.S. Attorney’s Office spent months planning the operation, which focused on people with criminal records — and no legal status in the United States.
