EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Filmmaker, actor and independent film legend Kevin Smith will be a featured special guest during the El Paso Film Festival.
Smith, best known for cult classics like “Clerks,” “Chasing Amy,” “Dogma” and “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,” will appear at the festival for a live conversation at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Plaza Theatre.
“This will be my first official visit to El Paso, Texas — and I couldn’t be more excited,” Smith said. “I’m not just coming to talk about my career; I’m here to share what I’ve learned with the next generation of indie filmmakers. Festivals like this are where passion meets opportunity, and I’m honored to be part of it.”

The evening will include “personal stories, audience Q&A, and Smith’s signature blend of humor, insight, and no-holds-barred honesty,” the film festival said in a news release.
“We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Kevin Smith to El Paso,” said Andrea Calleros, executive
director of the El Paso Film Festival. “By hosting voices like Kevin Smith, the festival aims to
bridge generations of film lovers, celebrating the trailblazers of independent cinema while
sparking inspiration in those creating the classics of tomorrow.”
Now entering its eighth year, the El Paso Film Festival champions independent filmmaking and
cross-cultural storytelling with a special focus on work that reflects the diverse communities of
the U.S.-Mexico border, organizers said.
The festival has been named one of MovieMaker Magazine’s 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee two years in a row.
“We founded this festival to spotlight bold voices in film,” said Carlos F. Corral, artistic director
of the El Paso Film Festival. “Kevin Smith represents everything we love about independent
cinema — raw creativity, fearless storytelling, and building community through film. We’re
honored to bring him to the El Paso stage.”
Individual tickets for “An Evening with Kevin Smith” will be available through the Plaza Theatre
Box Office, Ticketmaster, and the festival’s website. Entry is also included with the Festival
VIP Pass, which grants access to all screenings and exclusive parties throughout the weekend.
The El Paso Film Festival runs Sept. 25–27. Festival venues include the Philanthropy Theatre, Plaza Theatre, the El Paso Museum of Art and the El Paso Mexican American Cultural Center.
