BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An inmate and three other people are accused of smuggling drugs and contraband into the Old County Jail in Brownsville.
An investigation by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office determined four people conspired to bring in cocaine, THC and other contraband into the facility.
Authorities identified the four people as Jose Rendon, 45; Cynthia Rivera, 38; Martin Angulo, 36; and Angelica Castro, 41.
The investigation determined that Martin collaborated with Cynthia to bring narcotics into the jail intended for distribution among inmates.

The conspiracy involved financial transactions and plans to deliver the narcotics during jail visitations.
Search warrants were executed during the investigation and uncovered further evidence of Jose Rendon and Angelica Castro’s involvement in the criminal operation.
All four suspects were charged with:
- Criminal Conspiracy
- Manufacture or Delivery of a Substance in PG 1
- Manufacture or Delivery of a Substance in PG 2
- Prohibited Substances and Items in a Correctional or Civil Commitment Facility
